Introducing University High School’s 2017 Musical “CHICAGO”

After a very successful staging of “Anything Goes” in 2016, Uni High will this year take on the Fosse masterpiece “Chicago.” Most Uni High students will know Chicago from the hit movie starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger, a film that won an Academy Award for Best Picture. However, premiering in 1975 on Broadway, CHICAGO won six Tony Awards including Best Revival.

So, what is this musical about? In 1920’s Chicago, Roxie Hart murders her faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap... until he finds out he's being fooled and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines. Along the way we’re introduced to a multitude of wonderful characters including the fierce Matron ‘Mama’ Morton and the lawyer who plays better than anyone else, Billy Flynn. Velma and Roxie ultimately join forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal.
